From .nl to .eu: trademark holders given priority in registering European domain name

The European Commission has given the go-ahead to the European domain name. As from 2006, millions of European domain names will be put to use. This will be done in phases: trademark holders will be given a two-month priority period within which to claim their right to the domain name. Private individuals cannot begin to use .eu until January. Thousands of interested parties have already reported to the hosting companies registered specifically for the issue of the European Internet addresses, including many small and medium-sized enterprises .
